World Romance Scam Prevention Day
Annually Celebrated October 3rd
Advocating Against Romance Scammers is the founder of World Romance Scam Prevention Day! A day to bring more awareness and education from the public and private sectors on a national and international level. See how you can help the cause and our latest campaign to recognize the day!
See the Person. Hear Their Experience. Understand the Impact.
On October 3, 2026, Advocating Against Romance Scammers invites individuals, survivors, families, law enforcement, financial institutions, technology companies, victim-service providers, mental-health professionals, and organizations around the world to participate in the fourth annual World Romance Scam Prevention Day.
This year’s campaign, See. Hear. Understand., asks us to look beyond the financial loss and recognize the person whose trust, safety, and sense of connection were deliberately exploited.
Behind every romance scam report is a human being who deserves to be seen without judgment, heard without blame, and understood with compassion.
Why This Campaign Matters
Romance scam victims are often met with questions such as, “How could you believe them?” or “Why did you keep sending money?”
Those questions overlook the calculated emotional manipulation, coercion, grooming, isolation, and deception used by scammers. They can deepen a victim’s shame and make it even more difficult to report the crime, seek support, or begin healing.
The way we respond matters.
- When victims feel seen, they know they have not been forgotten.
- When victims feel heard, they know their experience matters.
- When victims feel understood, shame begins to lose its power.
What Does It Mean to See, Hear, and Understand?
SEE
See the person, not only the financial loss, the report, or the decisions they made while being manipulated.
HEAR
Listen to their experience without interrupting, questioning, blaming, or telling them what they should have known.
UNDERSTAND
Recognize the sophisticated manipulation behind romance scams and the emotional, financial, psychological, and social impact these crimes can leave behind.
